University College Dublin is one of Europe's leading research-intensive universities. At UCD undergraduate education, master's and PhD training, research, innovation and community engagement form a dynamic spectrum of activity.
Today UCD is Ireland's largest and most diverse university with over 30,000 students, drawn from approximately 124 countries. It actively promotes university life as a journey of intellectual and personal discovery through its highly innovative and flexible UCD Horizons undergraduate curriculum and is the most popular destination for Irish school-leavers.
UCD is Ireland's leader in graduate education with over 8,000 graduate students, with almost a quarter being graduate research students. Over 50% of UCD undergraduates progress to graduate studies.
UCD is home to over 6,000 international students and delivers degrees to over 5,000 students on overseas campuses. In addition, the University places great emphasis on the internationalisation of the Irish student experience – preparing all UCD students for future employment and life that crosses borders, boundaries and cultures.
The UCD Dublin European Institute (DEI) is the host of the ANTERO network and supports scholarly research and debate on the sources, processes and implications of European integration and governance. Its activities focus on the evolution and functioning of the European Union and other European institutions, as well as the ways in which developments at the individual, group, regional, national and global levels shape or are shaped by European integration and governance. In so doing, the Institute contributes to an informed public discourse related to Ireland's place in the geographic, cultural, historical, economic and political space that is 'Europe'.
The DEI is the oldest and largest university centre for research on European affairs in the Republic of Ireland. It was established in 1990 as the Centre of European Economic and Public Affairs (CEEPA), which in 1998 was designated a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence by the European Commission. Two years later, CEEPA was replaced by the Dublin European Institute within the university's Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies. The DEI has been part of the UCD School of Politics and International Relations since 2005.
